What did I aim to do?
The first time I tried writing with the pieces of rope, I used acrylic paint. I noticed that I had to constantly dip the rope back into the paint to be able to write with it. That is why I now want to see if this works better with ink. I believe the rope will absorb the ink better, making it easier to write.
Which steps did I take and/or methods did I use?
First, I cut two pieces of rope. Next, I used a lighter to heat one end to create a hard tip, and I made the end of the other piece of rope fuzzy. After this, I dipped the ends into the ink I had purchased and was able to write with them.
What did I find out/learn?
I immediately noticed that the rope absorbed the ink much better than the paint. After dipping the rope into the ink, I could actually write with it. This was almost impossible when using the paint. I did notice, however, that because the rope absorbed the ink so well, it turned completely black, which resulted in my hands getting quite dirty. This is something I would like to prevent if I continue with this.
Which new questions about my material or process of experimentation do I have?
I wonder how many different variations you can make with the ends of the rope to achieve different results.
What does this mean for next steps?
I think writing with rope is a good idea to pursue further. I do want to see if I can make some kind of casing around the rope so it is easier to hold, and your hands don't get dirty when the rope absorbs the ink.
Which sources do I use to inform my next steps?
I am going to search online for how I can design a casing in 3D and subsequently print it.
